Interesting email just received – much to my surprise I have been nominated for this award by some leading Hungarian winemakers. This is incredibly flattering because, while I have spoken up for Hungarian wines on many occasions, I have also been a critical friend at times, which not everyone has taken well to.

Short summary of ‘Winemaker of the Winemakers Award’ and ‘Friend of the Winemakers Award’:
The holder of the honourable award ‘Winemaker of the Winemakers’ may be a person from the Carpathian Basin who produces outstanding quality and is nominated by the previous winners of the award and elected by the fifty nominees. Fifty nominees every year, a vote each, and recognition for a lifetime. The previous winners of the award was Zoltán Demeter (2007), Dr. György Lőrincz (2008), István Szepsy (2009), Ottó Légli (2010), Imre Kaló (2011), Imre Györgykovács (2012), József Szentesi (2013), Stéphanie Berecz (2014), Dr. László Bussay (2015) and András Bacsó (2016).
The holder of the honourable award ‘Friend of the Winemakers’ may be a civilian person who stand outstandingly for the issue of the Hungarian wine and the work of the Hungarian winemakers. The ‘Friend of the Winemakers’ is nominated by the previous winners of the ‘Winemaker of the Winemakers’ award and elected by their fifty nominees.

At the present time the voting procession is in progress. The Gala ceremony of the Winemaker of the Winemakers Award will be at the 28th of April 2017 at Boscolo New York Palace, Budapest.
